Look, let's be honest here. There are well spoken people who are conservatives for intellectual, justifiable reasons. But almost none of them are Palin supporters. She is the lowest common denominator of your party, the Nascar of Republicanism.

I do think it's an accurate portrayal of many of her fans.

I'd like to know how many people they had to interview to get these examples. It looks like they were there from early morning to well into the night.

Yes, this is an accurate portrayal of her supporters. When asked about her policies, they couldn't give ONE!! Blind followers are sad, no matter the party. But, the level of idiocy and miseducation is scary. There's no way anyone in their right frame of mind can defend those attributes.

I think she was referring to the live broadcast on election night at Grant Park in Chicago. A reporter walked up to a woman and asked her what this moment meant to her. She replied that it was great, because now she didn't have to pay her gas bill, car payment, or pay her rent. Somehow everything was going to be free now that Obama was elected.

I like to call these people "low information voters."

Ugh, this is so sickening. There needs to be a better medium through which policy issues and candidate stances are conveyed in a proper, yet succinct, manner. I'll admit, I didn't know Obama's stance on something versus Palin's, but I did research it and got a lot of confusing answers.

But there are some great and reliable sources of info on the internets, if looking in the right (unbiased, not right politically ... hah) places.

But ye GODS, this was painful. Border issues with Russia? Information about Obama from church groups and Fox News? BLAH.

I have very intelligent, well-informed friends on both sides of the political spectrum--none of whom are Palin supporters. I understand her appeal and I understand that this interview may not personify all of her supporters. But it's the "what if" aspect that realllyyy frightens me.

I would not disagree with at least a basic competency test over knowledge of the government system and the candidates/their policies... I would not expect my opinion to count on any matter that I had zero knowledge of, but when it comes to voting, anyone's opinion (no matter the reasoning... or lack of...) counts. It's scary when you think about it.

I think if the government decided who could and couldn't vote it would be both un-American and undemocratic. To me, it stinks of the literacy tests the South used to stop blacks from voting.

Because of my degree, I actually know a lot about the psychology of voting, particularly the political psychology of voting. Truthfully, just liking a candidate is as valid a reason to vote for someone as most of us come up with.

It's just simply not true that we sit around, evaluate a candidate's positions on issues, and then decide. We use shortcuts, often emotional, to arrive at our voting choices. The Michigan model shows that either the candidate or their stance on specific issues make us arrive at our voting choice. Palin has a high likability heuristic for these people. That's cool.

But still very funny to watch.

SKG - I agree with a lot of that comment. I think we all like to think that so much goes in to our vote and everyone elses, but at the end of the day I think you're right. People will vote for plenty of reasons that have nothing to do with the issues.

Watching this surprisingly makes me think of Alan Keyes. If what SKG says is true about how we pick someone to vote for, he must be my exception. He's smart, has strong moral values, etc., etc....and then you listen to him talk and you think "Gee buddy, where's your personality?"

It can never be said enough that Alan Keys disowned his gay daughter.
