I grew up watching Sesame Street in the 70's and I loved it. However, in light of producers decisions to take our children politico I think I would have serious second thoughts about allowing my children (if I had any) to watch if this is the future of Sesame Street programing.
Their audience are pre K through mid elementary. What the hell are Sesame Street producers trying to accomplish by politically persuading our small children? I guess the reason is obvious but the fact that they would break from their traditional non partisan educational programing and presume to groom our children politically is insulting to me.

Cute
and she was right. Fox is trashy.
1
Yeah, because every news channel that leans the other direction must be trashy.
2Speaking of cute Pink who is that in your avitar?
3Ahh you took him away
4Hey wait a minute is this musical Avitars?
5Musical...yeah
What was he doing Hypno? My Avi
6Neck length black hair, wearing a cap and sitting on the floor with his arm resting on his right knee and the left leg was flat on the floor.
7Oh this guy. His Highness Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum. He is the crown prince of Dubai. He's a cutie isn't he Hypno?
8That's him! LOL he looks like a butch dude in the avatar and a Crown Princess in this photo. Uhm I think I'll have second thoughts on this one. I like men for a reason because they look like men, lol.
9I think his eyes are too pretty. But I like them anyway.
10This is just plain absurd!
11"What the hell are Sesame Street producers trying to accomplish by politically persuading our small children?"
ok admittedly the joke wasnt funny (maybe i missed something i only watched the clip once) and was in somewhat bad taste and also gratuitous. im no fan of fox news but also don't care for the unnecessary negativity in a kids show. they are usually great at being very funny without any negativity at all. (examples: three bears and a new baby, elmo's potty time, etc)
however the intention is probably not to persuade young minds and even if it is i dont think you have anything to worry about, this one 'joke' is not going to be persuasive, the kids will probably forget it right away if not miss it entirely. i think the intention is to add some adult humor to keep mom and dad entertained. of course im sure the writers are well aware that moms and dads who watch fox news wont like the joke. maybe they are maliciously trying to insult you moms and dads who like fox news. maybe they are trying to impose the idea that fox news fans and people who agree with fox news do not have values that are good for children? (pro-war, anti-welfare, etc) who knows....... but i think if anything this is more an insult to you than a plot to brainwash your kid
12I'm no fan of certain hosts on Fox but I do watch Fox as well as MSNBC and CNN equally. I also understand that (a) joke is harmless in this case. What I'm afraid of is the possible precedence this will set with Sesame Street producers. Will they continue to slip writing of this nature in to their programing to stealthily voice their political views? If that becomes the case then yes whether our children are the intended target or simply the bystanders of a political pissing match between ideologies the effect on them is something I would not subject my child to.
13my guess is they put it in as a joke for the parents. not in the best of taste, but that's my guess.
14I understand how you feel Hypno. If I had kids I would be watching Sesame Street with them for a while to see if this was a one time thing or a trend.
15I'm sure they put the joke in for parents. The My Cousin Vinny references in the Marisa Tomei episode probably went over the pre-K set's heads and I'm sure they put this reference in the same way, not expecting kids to get it. I don't think it's particularly tasteful, but I'm not outraged either.
16I'd rather kids not learn that something like Fox News exists, even from a snarky joke.
17well, considering they were talking about Pox News and not Fox...I wouldn't take it so seriously.
This is a show that has long played on making "adult pop culture" references a blended part of a kids show.
18I HATE it when kids show put in jokes to entertain the parents. That is so damn lame. If that is why they were doing it. I turn on sesame street for my kids to be entertained, not me. Parents should be ashamed of themselves if they think it is ok to slip in adult humor in childrens broadcasting. I take my kids to a rated G movie and there are adult jokes in it. Its shameful.
19sesame street has been entertaining kids and their parents for 40 years by slipping in subtle jokes. that's why it's been so successful.
20well that sucks that adults can find that OK
21snarky - have you read The Tipping Point? There's a whole chapter dedicated to the success of Sesame Street and Blues Clues. The reason sesame street is successful is because they test every single episode with their target audience multiple times.
22yes, i did read that. i think there can be more than one reason for the success of something.
23Hamdan is kinda cute.
And I don't have a problem with the video either. Fox news is a joke to millions of people.
24
25Yes Sesame street is bad for kids.....
26
27I don't really care if people throw in jokes for adults. The adults have to sit through the stuff with their kids. so they might as well get a laugh here or there. It's not like they're splicing in a few seconds of p0rn movies in with kiddie shows. Oh, wait....
28I just don't know, em1282.
*Enunciating, Caruso style* I...think.......that...there might be...a...very possible...link to.........Sesame Street and......p0rn. *returning sunglasses to.....nose bridge*
