I just read about this. CNN says 9 dead and 20 wounded.

I'm eager to hear what happened. I hate not knowing what happened.

According to NBC, they are saying a shooter is in custody, but then they kept saying shooters. So I can't tell if they have the guy or just one of them....

Now according to CNN there are 11 killed plus one of the gunmen and there are two other gunmen in custody. This just keeps getting worse and worse.

"At least seven people were killed and 20 wounded in two shootings Thursday at the Fort Hood Army base in Texas, the Army said. At least two gunmen were believed to be involved in attack, and one was in custody, the military said. The first shooting began at about 1:30 p.m. at a personnel and medical processing office, Army spokesman Lt. Col. Nathan Banks said. The facility, called a Soldier Rating and Processing center, handles administrative details for soldiers.

Banks says the second shooting took place at a theater on the sprawling base."

"Lampam said a graduation ceremony for soldiers who finished college courses while deployed was going on in the auditorium at the time of the shooting."

yikes! i just realized that one of my sister's bffs was stationed there until very very recently. scary stuff!

so the gunman was a major, according to cnn. and two other solders are suspects.

I've also heard the rumor the gunman had converted to Islam recently.

but no word on the other two.

OMG, my brother is at Fort Hood and I just got in contact him. We have been trying all day. I am so glad he is okay.

I heard that one gunman is in custody, another is cornered, and a third is still loose. All schools in the area are still on lockdown.

Okay, wait.... one dead, two in custody now.

CNN is reporting on this story at THIS very moment. Such a sad situation.

I wish Muslims and Islam wasn't always mentioned when things like this occur. I hope the death count ends here for these family's and no others who are injured, pass away.

Not only was this guy an army major but he was also a psychiatrist.

This is such a strange and sad story. 10 of the dead are soldiers and one is a cop.

What a horrible, horrible story. I will never understand the type of people who commit these acts. There must be something abnormally wrong with you if you can take away innocent life like that!

Lt. Gen. Robert Cone is doing his press conference now. The shooter is NOT dead.

My bf was born there. He said someone went on a killing rampage there 12 years ago too, but he doesn't know much about that story.

...and I don't know about the 'converting to Islam' rumor, but I think the 'going apesh!t and killing innocent people' might be of a bit more concern, IMO.

this is BS. he wanted out of the army, because he was being "harrassed", being called names because of his islamic faith.....and he got reprimanded for lecturing toother solders about islam. He had a lawyer to try to get out of the army but they wouldnt let him out....so he KILLS PEOPLE? that doesnt make sense. This was pure and simple a terrorist attack.

From the things I am hearing, he only joined to get his college paid for. Now that he has his degree, he doesn't want to fulfill his end of the bargain.

I had also heard a report that he was calling for the Iraqis to stand up against the aggressor, but he was referring to the US as the aggressor. Did anyone else hear about that? Can that be substantiated?

“If one suicide bomber can kill 100 enemy soldiers because they were caught off guard that would be considered a strategic victory,” the man wrote. It could not be confirmed, however, that the writer was Major Hasan.

People go off and shoot up schools, gym clubs, citizenship classes with disturbing regularity and we don't call it terrorism - like the others, this guy sounds as if there have been issues all along. Many shooters say hateful, radical-sounding things before they go off.

I'm curious to know why the military kept him counseling patients on such serious emotional issues if there were questions about his own state of mind.

I think people are too quick to blurt out the word "terrorism" these days, when it's not appropriate yet - or if at all.

And anytime the criminals name sounds somewhat Muslim or people feel that they may have some sort of affiliation with Muslims, then some people within the public absolutely thinks that his wrong doing was because of his beliefs...which is NOT always true.

Hearing more and more, i believe this guy wanted an education so he went into the military, then he realized that he hated the military and maybe hated alot of people he worked with, he might have started to relate to radical islam, because he felt like people were persecuting him for his faith. so in turn he decided to kill all the american soldiers he could to help out the terrorists he now identifies with. I mean if you want out the army, thats not really the way to go.
