I'm trying to get to the next installment of my Pulitzer Prize-deserving series on liberal lies about national health care, but apparently liberals have decided to torture us by neurotically fixating on one lie.
After President Barack Obama gave a speech to a joint session of Congress last week passionately defending his national health care plan, the Democrats were agog at the brilliance of the speech. Nancy Pelosi was so thrilled, her expression almost changed.
But as Obama ticked off one demonstrably false claim after another -- eliciting 37 standing ovations from the Democrats in the audience -- America's greatest living statesman, Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., yelled out, "You lie!" in response to Obama's claim that the bill will not cover illegal aliens.
There are a number of theories about why America's greatest living statesman shouted "You lie!" at that juncture, but mine is that Wilson said it because Obama told a big, fat stinking lie.
Every single American knows it's a lie. But liberals take pleasure in repeating it -- and then condescendingly accusing anyone who doesn't accept their lie of being a toothless, illiterate racist.
Our politicians, media and courts have done everything they can to encourage illegal immigration, including obstinately refusing to enforce the border. While illegals streaming across the border generally aren't prosecuted, U.S. border patrol agents who naively try to guard the border often are.
Wise (and pregnant) Latinas dash across the border just in time to give birth at American hospitals -- medical services paid for by U.S. taxpayers -- gaining instant citizenship for their children, thereby entitling them to the entire Chinese menu of American welfare programs.
In 2004, 42.6 percent of all babies born at taxpayer expense in California were born to illegal aliens, according to a state report on Medi-Cal-funded deliveries. In hospitals close to the Mexican border, the figure is closer to 80 percent. Remember: This is before health care becomes "free" to every U.S. resident.
Hospitals across the country are going bankrupt because the federal government forces them to provide free services to illegals. This situation appears to have angered some segment of the population, in particular, American citizens who pay taxes to support the hospitals, but then are forced to spend hours writhing in pain in hospital waiting rooms.
With Americans in a boiling cauldron of rage about the government's impotent response to the tsunami of illegal immigrants, last year, both political parties ran candidates for president who favor amnesty for illegal immigrants.
And now Democrats have the audacity to tell us to our faces that national health care won't cover illegals. Not only that, but they tell us we must not be able to read if we think it does.
The crystalline example of this sneering liberal pomposity came from MSNBC's Rachel Maddow on Monday night:
"Reading the House health care bill would show you that (the bill does not cover illegal aliens). But you know, sometimes reading is hard. Fortunately, in the case of the health reform bill, there is a way to get all of the information that's in it without any of that pesky reading.
"It's called HearTheBill.org. Volunteer voiceover actors have donated their time to read all 1,017 pages of the house health care reform bill, HR-3200, the America's Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009.
"So if you don't want to tire out your eyes, you could just listen to the thing that disproves (Rep. Wilson)."
Maddow then played an audio clip of Section 246 from the bill. This section, which liberals keep brandishing like a DNA-stained dress, states: "Nothing in this subtitle shall allow federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States."
In other words, illegal aliens are excluded from precisely one section of the thousand-page, goodie-laden health care bill: Section 246, which distributes taxpayer-funded "affordability credits" to people who can't afford to pay for their own health care.
Even this minor restriction on taxpayer largesse to illegals will immediately be overturned by the courts. But the point is: Except for vouchers, the bill does not even pretend to exclude illegals from any part of national health care -- including the taxpayer-funded health insurance plan.
Moreover, liberals won't have to wait for some court to find that the words "nothing in this subtitle shall allow" means "this bill allows," because the bill contains no mechanism to ensure that the health care vouchers aren't going to illegal aliens. Nor does the bill prohibit the states from providing taxpayer-funded health care vouchers to illegals.
Democrats keep voting down Republican amendments that would insert these restrictions -- just before dashing to a TV studio to denounce anyone who says the health care bill covers illegal aliens.
It's as if we have a relative who shows up at every holiday gathering, gets bombed and totals the family car. At the 18th Christmas celebration, he's not only demanding a drink, but also calling us liars for saying he's already totaled 17 family cars. Gimme a gin and tonic and the car keys, you lying racist!
I think that's why America's greatest living statesman erupted with rage when Obama retailed this particular lie during his speech on health care.
It's bad enough to be lied to, but to be lied to by people who accuse us of not being able to read when the problem is that we can read -- and also can remember what happened at the last 17 family Christmases -- is more than even Mother Teresa could bear without a quick heckle.

I hesitated once more before publishing this blog, but, I reasoned, failing to establish any credible discussion on the last posts' issues (despite almost 80 comments on one, most of which skirted the issues and questions presented,) I thought this one would certainly more interesting.
1The thought provoking question, which I suppose will come down to party lines, is whether we have any reason to believe that President Obama was NOT lying when he talks about illegals not being covered under his health care reform bill.
Personally I tend to agree with Ann on this point...and Joe Wilson, although not his tactics.
Once again, is there a good reason why Democrats refuse to write into the bill that this will specifically not cover illegal aliens? I would like to hear about it if there is.
and let's also be clear that Obama would approve of giving amnesty to those already living here illegally. awesome, just who i want to pay for...people who break the law.

2He needs the voters Brooke. We need to alter the pop & drop law. If your parents are foreign citizens who happen to arrive here illegally and pop you out there can only be 2 choices. you go back home with them, no claim on citizenship or we take you, put you up for adoption while we ship your illegal, law breaking parents home.
3I too would like to see the anchor baby law changed.
4I agree. I'd like to see the law changed as well. If the mom is illegal, then the children should be. Whatever the parent's status, the children should share the same status.
5It's only fair.
6Is there any other country I could go and have a kid and that child immediately be granted citizenship?
That's ridiculous to me. If I'm a US citizen and I have a baby in Zimbabwe, that baby should only be a US citizen.
7I have an issue with this from the standpoint that American people in general REALLY don't see how illegals impact not only healthcare but social security.
When they refuse to even learn our language that simply underlines my anger ten fold. We give so much so freely and ask do not even require that they learn our language.
There simply is no other place on earth that gives so freely. America gives so freely that we are hemmoraging. The system is being bled to death and our gov't has made no effort to stop the bleeding, in fact they are widening the wound.
Wilson should run in California. I would vote for him. If someone stood up and yelled "You Lie!" at every lie the demo-rats utter a meeting would never be uninterrupted.
I am convinced that Obama will be known as the best "spin Dr" president while simultaneously known as the "grim reaper" of Americas free speech, liberty, capitalism, and free economy.
8>In 2004, 42.6 percent of all babies born at taxpayer expense in California were born to illegal aliens
I'm curious about how many babies total were born at tax payer expense before I give 40% of that number any weight.
>This is before health care becomes "free" to every U.S. resident.
Who is proposing free healthcare? The public option proposed would charge premiums. This doesn't make sense.
>In other words, illegal aliens are excluded from precisely one section of the thousand-page, goodie-laden health care bill: Section 246, which distributes taxpayer-funded "affordability credits" to people who can't afford to pay for their own health care.
Does she want them to be banned from purchasing private health insurance? I don't understand.
>Even this minor restriction on taxpayer largesse to illegals will immediately be overturned by the courts.
And she knows this how...? Why would a court automatically overturn this?
I'm happy to discuss the points she brings up, but I think Ann Coulter is someone who is deliberately inflammatory just to sell books, so I don't have much respect for her.
9Take healthcare for example -- an estimated $1.1 billion per year for undocumented men, women and children, according to the Rand Corporation.
10Joe Riley is the CEO of the McAllen Texas Medical Center near the Texas-Mexico border. Forty percent of the children born there, nearly 2,400 last year, were the babies of illegal immigrants
"We have uncompensated care of over $200 million a year," Riley said.
“Referred to as "anchor babies," these children born in the United States are one of the most prominent factors of excessive population expansion and illegal immigration,” said Roy Beck of www.numbersusa.com . “In its Spring 2005 edition, the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons reported that "between 300,000 and 350,000 anchor babies annually become citizens… In 2003 in Stockton, California, 70 percent of the 2,300 babies born in San Joaquin General Hospital's maternity ward were anchor babies…"
11In 2003, taxpayers paid 2 billion for the births of 400,000 babies to illegal alien mothers. These babies automatically become citizens, eligible for full benefits. Food stamps and medical benefits for illegals cost $65 billion annually.
12The problem is that 2 billion paid is simply the tip of the iceberg.
If any are special needs or medications...we pay for that. If any need surgery...we pay for that. If they need food stamps and housing...we pay for that.
This becomes a perpetual pit that more and more money is tossed into. The birth of these new "citizens" is merely the beginning of the debacle.
If their parents refuse to learn English...we pay for ESL classes AND print everything in both English and Spanish.
The flood of illegals merely opens the floodgate of monetary funds that becomes a perpetual never-ending money pit.
Can you imagine how those funds could be better spent?
The point is that this is FREE for illegals while taxpayers foot the bill.
13Since Obama INSISTS that Obamacare will not be covering illegals....WHO WILL?
We will.
14The issue which rises above most is one which I think deserves a legitimate response. As Coulter says it,
Democrats keep voting down Republican amendments that would insert these restrictions -- just before dashing to a TV studio to denounce anyone who says the health care bill covers illegal aliens.
Is there a legitimate objection to blanket restrictions or not?
As far as the court cases are concerned, I think Coulter is referring to the fact that a special condition of the whole would be quickly overturned because it is simply a special restriction of a whole.
Lastly, yes, she does want to restrict illegal aliens from health care if and only if it is the federal or state government which is funding the bills.
From 50th Congressional district's Brian Bilbray's blog Statewide in 2004, providers delivered 248,086 babies at taxpayers' expense, according to the report. Of those, 105,665, or 42.6 percent, were to illegal immigrants. That's a 13.5 percent increase over the 93,094 Medi-Cal-funded deliveries to illegal immigrants in the state in 2001, as shown in the earlier report.
These statistics are available at: http://www.dhcs.ca.gov/DATAANDSTATS/STATISTICS/Pages/MEDI-CALFundedDeliv...
No federal program for health care makes any sense until costs are taken under control. In that vein, I suggest that Obama fix the costs associated with Medicare first. If he is successful with that government program, I'll be glad to let him extend the program to others. The simple fact is that Medicare is so far out of control that it is unsustainable. The idealism argument of maintaining that health care should cover all people doesn't hold water when we can't afford to cover the ones we have.
