For all of you who think homosexuality is a choice and that people can turn heterosexual. For all of you gays who insist that you were born who you are. For all the straights who thought or had homosexual experiences and feared you may be just a tad bit gay. As fun as it's been arguing our respective points it is time....it is time to hold hands because the fact of the matter is we're all right. Yes Gay activists some people are just a tad bit gay and can be conditioned to live heterosexual lives and yes fundamentalist Christian there are genuinely natural born homosexuals and they'll never change who they are.
I came across this article "Do Gays Have a Choice?" in (Scientific American Mind Magazine).
Ever since the late 1940's , when biologists Alfred Kinsey published his extensive reports on sexual practices in the U.S., it has been clear, as Kinsey put it, that people "do not represent two discrete populations, heterosexual and homosexual....The living world is a continuum in each and every one of its aspects." In other words, sexual attraction is simply not a black and white matter, and the labels "straight" and "gay" (or Bi) do not capture the complexities.
For obvious evolutionary reasons, most people are strongly inclined to prefer opposite-sex partners, because such a relationships produce children who continue the human race. But a few probably up to 7% of the population are exclusively attracted to members of the same sex, and many are in the middle. A recent position statement from the American Academy of Pediatrics and eight other national organizations agrees that "sexual orientation falls along a continuum."
Where do you stand in the CONTINUUM?!
How strongly are you attracted to members of the opposite sex?
0=Very strongly
1=Moderately
2=Not at all
Have you ever felt sexually attracted to a member of the same sex? (Ever means ever folks)
0=No
1=Yes
Have you ever had a dream about a sexual encounter with a member of the same sex? (Again ever means ever)
0=No
1=Yes
Have you ever had a waking fantasy about a sexual encounter with a member of the same sex?
0=No
1=Yes
Have you ever voluntarily had sexual contact (such as kissing or petting) with a member of the same sex?
0=No
1=Yes
How frequent are your same sex fantasies or dreams?
0=Never had them
1=Rare or Occasional
2=Frequent
Have you ever felt sexually aroused when you've had any exposure to two people of your same sex having a sexual encounter (through gossip, a video or same other means)?
0=No
1=Yes
Would you be willing to have sexual relations with someone of the same sex?
0=No
1=Maybe
2=Yes
How frequent are your same sex encounters?
0=Never had them
1=Rare or Occasional
2=Frequent
Now add up the numbers and see where you stand:
0-1: Exclusively heterosexual
2-3: Predominantly heterosexual
4-5: Predominantly heterosexual, with homosexual tendencies
6-7: Equally heterosexual and homosexual
8-9: Predominantly homosexual, with heterosexual tendencies
10-11: Predominantly homosexual
12-13: Exclusively homosexual
Unfortunately I could not link the article because the magazine makes you pay to read it on their web site (http://www.SciAmMind.com) I highly recommend picking up the issue because there is a lot more to the article. It really goes into great detail and study on the matter.

13! Baby, I'm solid!
1I'll never teeeeeeeeeell...
2Oh Party Pooper! LOL
3Oh fine. I'm a little bit gay!
4But that's no surprise.
5
60~ I couldn't be more straight if I were an arrow.
I think you'd probably be a little gay if you were afraid to answer the questions. The thought makes me a little queasy but I answered all the questions anyway.
7Hmmmmm..nope Pensa, I have no fear in answering the questions. I equated my score of 5: "Predominantly heterosexual, with homosexual tendencies" as a little bit gay.
8'Predominantly hetro' but in LA these days isn't that the same as 'dull as dishwater'?
9Predoiminantly hetero.
10With a name like Roar man, what else could you be?
1111-12 Depending on how you define "frequent sexual encounters". Okay people its not my fault I'm a hermit right now...okay maybe it is my fault.
Well I can live with Predominately Homosexual, it isn't the end of the world just cause I can't be as gay as Hypno. Anyways, it's not my fault that pretty men exist
.
12This is so interesting. I firmly believe that sexuality exists on a continuum with an infinite number of classifications. But 13 is a good place to start!
13Stay tuned tomorrow morning I'll have (What Kisses Mean). Very interesting.
14Do I even have to tell?
158! Predominantly homosexual? I think this quiz is broken.
16Five, baby. Not surprising at all to me.
17Do I even have to tell?
Oh please do!
Mich - I got the same thing!
18I assure you that I do not go around clubbing woman over the head and dragging them back to my cave, as my name might suggest.
19Predominantly hetero!
20Ok, I'm 0
21UnDave you'll always be my #0
22I got an 8, too.
Mich, I am not sure there are enough questions about how attracted you are to the opposite sex. Have one or two girl crushes in no way compares to the dozens of boy crushes I have had over the years yet I am predominately homosexual.
23I got a 6, but I would classify myself more in the 2-3 range, or possibly 4-5.
24"UnDave you'll always be my #0"
25"Have you ever felt sexually aroused when you've had any exposure to two people of your same sex having a sexual encounter (through gossip, a video or same other means)?"
This is an interesting question because there are different levels of arousal--often people (especially women, if I remember this correctly from my human sexuality class back in the day) can be aroused on a subconscious level. There have been a lot of studies done where pornographic videos (of the same-sex variety) were shown to people who identify as "straight", and even though the people claimed to have not been aroused, they were hooked up to spirometers and other machines, which told a completely different story based on their physiological responses.
26Really, em? That is fascinating!
27UnDave you'll always be my #0
28Totally fascinating, amy. That was one of my best college courses ever...even though the prof was kinda shady (long story...here's a link to some of his info on Wiki, about a book he wrote: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Man_Who_Would_Be_Queen), it was interesting because we had so many after-class speakers and movies to watch (but not *those* sorts of movies). One time we had a dominatrix and some of her slaves come into the class. Reallllllly interesting.
29Oh I actually saw a show on than em. It was on Discovery I think. It was really interesting.
30Em, Human Sexuality was by far the most interesting class of my college education. Ahh... the good old days.
We got to see some pretty interesting films too -- on the very, very, very large screen.
31"We got to see some pretty interesting films too -- on the very, very, very large screen."
We had this day every year called Armadillo Day (Dillo day for short, Dildo day to my friend who owns a restaurant near campus) where it was just absolute debauchery across campus. They'd show *those* movies on the huge, huge screens in the lecture halls.
32i got a 1 lol...
33In addendum:
“In a land mark study published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior in October 2003, 200 men and women who once considered themselves homosexuals but who had lived their lives as heterosexuals for at least five years were interviewed. Most of the participants had undergone some form of (reorientation therapy). In addition to determining whether such therapy actually worked, Dr. Robert L. Spitzer wanted to know just how dramatically people could alter their orientation. To his surprise, most of his subjects not only reported living long-term (more than 10 years) as heterosexuals, they also declared they had experienced “changes in sexual attraction, fantasy and desire” consistent with heterosexuality. The changes were clear for both sexes.”
“Not everyone who sets out to change his or her sexual orientation is successful in doing so, however”, which brings me to my concern. This probably means that they are a true homosexual by birth and were pushed for a number of reasons to try reorientation therapy. More pointedly my concern is teens and young adults who are pressured by family and a sense of guilty and wrong that is imposed upon them. If you’re a parent and your child shares with you or you discover that they have homosexual tendencies please sit down and take a deep breath first of all because it’s not the end of the world. They’re still your child and they still love you and you still love them no matter what so don’t let outside factors destroy that bond. Regardless of any deep held beliefs be patient and allow them to open up to you and don’t issue any mandates but ask questions and really explore what they’re feeling and thinking. Any attempt at reorientation should be generated organically from the individual not imposed as an ultimatum or coerced through shame. Too many teens and young adults take their lives because they feel they can never meet that reality that their parents/family/friends expect of them. Don’t take that chance with a child because once they’re gone, they’re gone.
34I got a 5.
I'm also curious about women that like to watch gay male porn or men that like to watch gay women porn. Would that add more to the gay or straight tendencies?
35
Hypno!
36"Mich, I am not sure there are enough questions about how attracted you are to the opposite sex. Have one or two girl crushes in no way compares to the dozens of boy crushes I have had over the years yet I am predominately homosexual."
I completely agree. All the questions aim at finding out whether you're interested or open to homosexual relations, with almost nothing asking about how interested you are in heterosexual relations. While it's fun, the quiz is pretty flawed, because by almost anybody's standards, I'm straight.
37Predominantly hetero. If it weren't for Eva Mendes I would be straight as an arrow.
38"All the questions aim at finding out whether you're interested or open to homosexual relations, with almost nothing asking about how interested you are in heterosexual relations"
LOL! That's because the test is called "How Gay Are You" silly Mich. but to address the opposite spectrum (how straight are you simply flip it).
39I'm still a big o'll Queen either side you look at it...LMAO!
40But I would think how gay you are is directly tied to how straight you are.
41I hung out with three heterosexual jock friends in college and they use to say and do some of the most homo-erotic things. When I look back I think OMG the fun I could have had with them if I wasn't so terrified I'd get my head bashed in.
42I definitely agree with Mich...but if I put all my faith and fact of philosophy and science into this test does that mean I have a chance with my favorite Libertarian
.
43
44I am also a "0".
"Any attempt at reorientation should be generated organically from the individual not imposed as an ultimatum or coerced through shame Too many teens and young adults take their lives because they feel they can never meet that reality that their parents/family/friends expect of them. 45Where do I redeem my points?
46"Where do I redeem my points?"
I think it comes down to how many points you have to redeem.
47I get a non-designer bag and a free hair cut!!
48Oh, you PM'd Hypno i gather
